It's been almost a month since Hurricane Beryl and many are still affected from this event. This includes myself.
After being without power for a week, and having rain pour into my home for weeks after, life is still not back to normal.
I feel thankful, though, knowing that things could be much worse. Today is August 7, 2024, and I still have a damaged roof, and holes in the ceiling. The carpet is finally drying out, but that won't last long until the next rain comes. It doesn't seem to bother my cat, or my bird though!
My neighborhood and neighbors were all helping each other. Everyone was looking out for each other and doing what they could. Because everyone was struggling, it was challenging to fight the heat, rain and stress. "Here's some mosquito spray y'all!"
I would like to thank my wonderful neighbors who brought food to me and helped with a tank or two of gasoline. Also thank you to my neighbors who helped me get my lawn mowed a week after because my lawnmower is battery operated and was unable to charge the battery.
While I was emptying the water buckets in the house as rain continued to pour, my neighbors were around to keep me smiling and laughing. I loved those phone calls, "Hey, is that your recycling bag floating down the street?" and "someone's trash bin is doing circles in the street."
Thank you also to my neighbors who provided coffee and cookies! I have an electric stove, so no making coffee at home.
I'm still waiting to get things fixed and while I'm air conditioning the entire neighborhood through the holes in my roof, I am thankful for the air conditioning! I am also thankful that the roof over the bedroom lasted intact through the storm.
Unfortunately, the insurance company only provided $243.00 for the damages. So, I will be struggling through the year 2033.
Although life events like this are occurring much too often, I am grateful for friends who help and keep us all smiling and laughing. I know many died (is it 30 lives now?) from this Hurricane event from loss of power. I pray for the friends and family of lost ones.
I haven't been able to paint since the storm because my work area was interrupted and my area where I make frames is growing organisms. Once this all gets cleaned up, I can get back to creating "Lisual Art!" Yee Haw! and Rodeo season will be here before you know it! I'm Ready!
If you would like to donate, or can donate, please, anything will help this old soul.
